OHA Edmonton’s Academic Partnership with Vimy Ridge Academy
At OHA Edmonton, we understand the importance of combining high-performance athletics with a strong academic foundation. Since 2016, Vimy Ridge Academy (VRA) has been the educational home for OHA Edmonton’s student-athletes, fostering a supportive environment where excellence in the classroom complements success on the ice.
About Vimy Ridge Academy
Established in 1999, Vimy Ridge Academy serves approximately 850 students from Grades 7 to 12. As Canada’s first school to emphasize rigorous academics alongside Sports Programming, Outdoor Pursuits, and a Professional Dance Program, VRA provides a dynamic educational experience tailored to individual needs.
With flexible timetabling, VRA empowers students to balance academic responsibilities with athletic commitments. The school’s core values—leadership, citizenship, self-discipline, physical fitness, and healthy lifestyles—are embedded in its programming, ensuring students graduate ready to excel in post-secondary education, careers, and as exemplary global citizens.
A Seamless Integration of Education and Athletics
Through our partnership with VRA, OHA Edmonton provides a holistic approach to student-athlete development. While receiving a first-class education at VRA, student-athletes participate in daily, purposeful on-ice training at the Royal Glenora Club, Edmonton.
Our 10-month, team-based program offers:
- Structured Practices: Focused on individual skill development, team tactics, and technical coaching.
- Dryland Training: Tailored to enhance physical fitness and athletic performance.
- Expert Coaching: Led by professionals with experience at the NHL, Junior, University, National, and Olympic levels.
Our philosophy is rooted in equipping student-athletes with the physical, mental, and emotional tools necessary to perform at the highest level. This includes building hockey IQ, fostering teamwork, and instilling a deep understanding of the game, preparing them to excel both individually and as team contributors.
Success Beyond the Rink
OHA Edmonton teams compete in the highly regarded Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL), which spans Western Canada. While our program prioritizes athletic development, academic excellence is equally vital. All players are required to attend VRA, where they benefit from personalized educational support designed to help them thrive as student-athletes.
By combining VRA’s robust academic programming with OHA Edmonton’s elite hockey training, we prepare our student-athletes for success in every aspect of their lives—on the ice, in the classroom, and beyond.
